Christian Dior Brand Profile

Christian Dior was born in France on 21st, January 1905, and was a man well-known for his creativeness. Coming from a household that dealt with processing chemical compounds along with fertilizers, he streamed right in the opposite route but quite effectively making a name for himself within the fashion fraternity which conferred him a lot of accolades in support of his artistic way of dealing with clothing. He was a master of his trade leaving no loose ends to object about. Despite the fact that his manner was unlike from the typical, it was this individuality which gave him an impetus to make his creations viable on a global basis. He had brought with his designs a revolution in women's clothing once again making Paris as a centre of the fashion business.

Christian Dior was an influential fashion designer and the creator of the Doir Empire. He attended the Ecole des Sciences Politiques to meet with his parent's desires. Though his family wished that he would turn out to be a diplomat, much to their wonder their child was more fascinated in art rather than being a diplomat. To make money he used to sell his fashion sketches at 10 cents apiece. He opened a small art gallery in 1928 using the funds he received from his father. But due to the family's financial disaster he was forced to close up his gallery and worked with Robert Piguet who shortly joined the fashion house where he and Pierre Balmain had been the primary designers. In 1945 he went into production for himself, backed by Marcel Boussac, the cotton-fabric entrepreneur. He opened his own fashion house in 1946 and showed his initial collection by the name "Corolle" which popularly gained the name New Look. Known for the sensual looks given to his attires, he was a master in designing shapes and silhouettes. He passed away on 23rd October, 1957.

After his first design, which had already ensured his position in the global forum of fashion, his consequential concepts also made a considerable effect on the ramp. The H-line in 1954 and the A-line in 1955 were to become as fashionable as the original one and people began to look upto him as a man of inspiration. The enterprise expanded not only in terms of stores but also ventured into new forums. After his passing away his company was managed by his grand daughter who made the company accomplish new heights. Some of the awards won by the company include:

Fashion Industry Foundation award, to the House of Dior, New York in 1990.

The brand which at first excelled in apparels extended its shores to ready-to-wear, leather-based merchandise, shoes, watches, perfumes, cosmetics, ties and other accessories. The brand also comprises of Baby Dior products. The Dior tradition of dealing with exquisite fabric led to the foundation of intercontinental merchandising labels representing gloves, furs, along with jewellery. Dior flagship shops are found in Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, Seoul, Madrid, Miami, Barcelona, New Delhi, and Shanghai.
